Hi everyone :) My name's David Galyean. I am becoming a "deaf leader/role-model/activist" working lately with two non-profit organization. 1) Washington Assistive Technology Foundation (and) 2) Enterprises for Equity.

First of all: I would like to announce everyone proudly that Enterprises for Equity will be hosting our second business workshop called "Business readiness workshop" this upcoming May 3, 2008 in Tacoma, Washington.

If you happen to be deaf/hoh expressing an area of interest in particpanting in those business workshop wanting to become a successful deaf enterpurer like myself for instance?

Of course, You are HEREBY WELCOME!!!!!! by e-mailing to Libby Pickthorn at WATF regarding your INTERESTS, Ok? :) Hence, She can put your name on spot reservating for May 3, 2008 workshop.

Hi David. We finally got a location for the next Workshop. It will be at the South Campus of Bates Technical College (TACID was busy; HSDC was too small). May 3rd Business Readiness Workshop in Tacoma: As a follow up to the November 10 Workshop, WATF and Enterprise for Equity of Olympia are collaborating to offer a Business Readiness Workshop on May 3rd, 2008 in Tacoma from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 PM. This workshop is designed to help future business owners get a clearer idea of what it takes to be self-employed. Trainers will provide a picture of what is required to launch a new business - risks, costs, and rewards. Participants will see examples of finished business plans, explore financial considerations for their small enterprises and learn about the commitment and hard work necessary to succeed in a longer training program --- and eventually launch a small business. Registration Deadline is April 28th!

To Register for the May 3rd Workshop: Please contact WATF at 206-328-5116 (Voice), 888-808-8942 TTY or email us at: libby@watf.org. You will be mailed a questionnaire which needs to be completed and returned in advance of the workshop. This information will enable the trainers to prepare more effectively.

Location:Bates Technical College – South Campus. The room number and other details will be sent to you once you have registered.

Accommodations:ASL Interpreters will be provided. Please give us at least two weeks notice of any other interpreting or accommodation needs!

Other News

Matching Funds for Assistive Technology: WATF has a new way to pay for assistive technology – the Assistive Technology Individual Development Account Program ("IDA"). Through this program (offered in collaboration with the United Way of King County and Washington state), low income individuals who establish special savings account and save regularly can receive up to $4000 in matching funds for purchases of assistive technology. The assistive technology must be for work related activities or education or training intended to lead to work related activities.Please contact WATF no later than June 15 to enroll by the June 30 deadline. But don't wait! We only have 10 spaces available and they will be filled on a first come first served basis!Please contact Frances or Libby at WATF to obtain more information or copies of the application materials.
